It is sad to say but many Christians do not actually love Jesus. Here are my simple reasons why we Christians should really love our Lord.

  1. Jesus died for us

Jesus gave His life as a ransom (Matthew 20:28) for our release from the Devil and the eternal fire of hell that awaited us. The mere thought that you are not going to hell should cause you to love Jesus who made this possible.

  2. Jesus wants us to be with Him in heaven

After shedding His blood for the remission of our sins, Jesus went to heaven to prepare a place for us so that we can stay there – outside hell – together with Him. “In My Father’s house are many mansions . . . I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3). Why wouldn’t one love the Person who is preparing for them a glorious and eternal abode?!

  3. Jesus has made it hard for us to leave Him

Because Jesus ‘badly’ wants us to live with Him forever, He has made it extremely difficult for us to depart from Him. First and foremost, He has a firm grip on us that makes it impossible for anyone to snatch us from His hand (John 10:27-28). Secondly, He has given us the Holy Spirit who helps us to steer clear of lawlessness. You see, Christians who practice lawlessness will not enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 7:21-23). The Holy Spirit was therefore given to teach us (John 14:26) what we should and shouldn’t do. The promise: “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:27), is fulfilled in Christians. Practicing lawlessness – which takes Christians to hell – has been made difficult by Jesus. He cannot afford to see us in hell. This should surely cause us to love Him.

  4. Jesus is our Advocate when we sin

Now, since we still have the body of flesh, Jesus knew that we would sin. For that matter, He is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding for us when we sin and ask for forgiveness. It is in that sense that He is our Advocate (Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1). Therefore, He has even take care if the sin factor. This is nothing but love; and such love must be reciprocated with love.

God bless you.
