On Sunday 29th October 2017 I preached about the faithfulness of God, how He kept His promise to Eve, even in the midst of so much resistance from the devil. Below is the sermon outline I used; hopefully it will get you to listen to the sermon that many think it is my best sermon ever. Never again will you doubt God.

Sermon Outline

The promise: Genesis 3:15.

Eve believed God. Consider the children’s names: Genesis 4:1, 2, 25
The fulfilment: Hebrews 2:14, Colossians 2:15

But, 3 major hurdles were in the way:

1) Conception of the seed,
2) The Seed of a genetically pure woman,
3) The Seed of the woman crushing the serpent’s head

1. Coming/conception of the seed

Problem: Barrenness of patriarchs’ wives, murders, attempted mass killings
Solution: Divine intervention.

2. The seed of a genetically pure woman

a) Hurdle: Contamination of human genome (Genesis 6:1-4, 9).
Solution: The flood to destroy all humanity apart from ‘perfect’ Noah and his family

The Seed must come from and through David (2 Samuel 7:12, 13)

b) Hurdle: A curse in Solomon’s lineage (Matthew 1:6-11, Jeremiah 22:29, 30)
Solution: Go through Nathan, Solomon’s full-brother (2 Samuel 5:14, Luke 3:31)

NB: The hurdle turned out a future solution for hurdles (c) and (d)

c) Hurdle: It has to be The Seed of the woman, yet women have no seed
Solution: A virgin of royal descent shall conceive and bear a Son (Isaiah 7:14)

d) Hurdle: A virgin’s Son has no legal right to the throne

Thankfully though, the Son has royal blood from the mother. Read Numbers 27:1-8 and Numbers 36:6, 7

Solution:
i) Have a man of royal descent (now Nathan’s line) give birth to that virgin, but fail to have sons,
ii) Cause the royal virgin to marry from the royal family
ii) Apply “Zelophehad’s law”
That is how Joseph the son of Jacob (Matt 1:16), becomes the son (not in Greek) of Heli (Luke 3:23). Joseph became a son of Heli because Heli the father of Mary had no sons yet Mary inherited the father’s possession and married from her father’s tribe.

3. The Seed crushing the serpent’s head

a) Hurdle: Herod wants to kill the Child
Solution: Flee to Egypt

b) Hurdle: Temptations by Satan
Solution: Overcome them by the Word of God

c) Hurdle: Death before His time
Solution: Divine protection
