During our Marriage Fellowship breakfast, people gave varying answers to the question: What would be your response if President Museveni offered you a blank cheque for any request you made? One individual said they would request for a house in Kololo. Another said they would ask for a shopping mall and a forex bureau. Someone, volunteering to be my self-appointed spokesperson said, “Pastor Moses would ask for a church building.”
King Solomon was once in a similar situation, though not with Uganda’s President, but with God. “At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon’s response was simple but profound: “Give to your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (1 Kings 3:9). This seemingly simple request for wisdom so pleased God that He not only gave Solomon great wisdom, but also great riches and honor.
God is especially pleased when our requests are tied to the wellbeing of people. You see, God loves people, and He wants to do them good. The wellbeing of people is key on God’s mind. Therefore, whenever someone positions Himself to be a channel of blessing, God cannot help but to give that person more than they asked.
Many years ago, I fervently prayed to God to give me a lot of money so that I would be a blessing to His people. That is why, later, in three dreams, I was given the spiritual position in Uganda, of the Governor Bank of Uganda (Financial Prosperity Overseer or Financial Prosperity President). This means, that in addition to having A LOT of money, I will also have the anointing that attracts money in my and other people’s lives. It is not wrong to ask God to meet your personal needs and wants. However, God desires that you also request to be used as a channel of blessing. In that case, the focus is not you but other people. With that kind of heart, God will bless you beyond your wildest dreams.
When talking about spiritual gifts, Paul exhorted us to earnestly desire them (1 Corinthians 12:31). However, he went ahead to show us a more excellent way of going about it – the way of love (1 Corinthians 12:31 – 1 Corinthians 13). Love for people (and of course God) should be the overriding factor in most of our prayer requests.
Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (food, clothing, etc.) shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
If you happen to meet Museveni and he asks what he should do for you, I pray that the love for people will be your guide. Fortunately or unfortunately, many of you will never get this opportunity with the President. But thank God, you always have access to the Most High God. When you approach Him, ask like Solomon – ask for the sake of people. If you do so, God will give you many more other things for your personal enjoyment.
God bless you.
