There are a few things you should never neglect or stop doing as a Christian. Making these simple things habitual in your life will keep you in God’s presence, will, and will enable you never to fall away from the salvation that is in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Number 1: Do your best to read something from the Bible every day. God’s word is food to your soul and spirit. Having a meal of the word of God will therefore keep you spiritually healthy. The word of God is also meant to be a lamp to your feet, and a light to your path (Psalms 119:105). Therefore, when you make reading the Bible a habit, you will be kept in the perfect will of God by its guidance. Hallelujah!

Number 2: Create some time every day to speak to God. This is what prayer is. You were created to fellowship with God. Therefore, every time you pause to commune with God, you are fulfilling the primary purpose of your existence. You all know that the Bible was originally written in Hebrew, the language of the people to whom God first revealed Himself. In the Tanakh, (the Hebrew Bible), the first letter is a magnified ‘bet’, which is a picture of a house. This is meant to teach that God, first and foremost, wants to live with Man – with you. God loves you so much, and He enjoys “chilling out” with you. Make His heart glad by talking to Him every day about anything.

Number 3: Praise and worship God every day. God is not only great and mighty, but also good. For that matter, praise and adore Him. Thank Him for the good things He daily does for you. Thank Him for life, food, water, relationships, protection, and all the many things you might be taking for granted. In good and bad times, praise the Lord, for He is so good.

Number 4: Regularly set aside some days to fast. Fasting does miracles in subduing the flesh, and heightening spiritual sensibilities. When you fast often, your hunger and desire for God will increase, and your perception and view of life will be in accordance with the mind of Christ. Therefore, do not neglect the spiritual discipline of going without food for sometime. And by the way, fasting also has physical health benefits.

Number 5: Love one another. When you love, you are fulfilling the commandments of God, and by doing so, you are loving God. Every day, love people by praying for them. When the opportunity arises, share what you have with someone in need if it is in your power to do so. Do not revenge, and do not keep grudges. Simply forgive those who wrong you. Sometimes this might not be easy, but that is why the Holy Spirit lives inside you – to help you do what is humanly impossible.

Keeping yourself in the word of God, in prayer, in worship, in fasting, and in love, will keep you on the path of life, and as Peter said, “an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” (2 Peter 1:11).

God bless you.
