I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. (Psalm 37:25-26)

I am taking time in this period to prayerfully read all the psalms in the Bible. Monday morning found me reading Psalm 37. While doing so, I got “arrested” at verses 25 and 26 because I felt the Lord Jesus was speaking to me through them. It occurred to me at that moment that when in 1999 the Lord audibly said to me that, “If you joyfully obey the laws of giving and receiving, you will never see financial depression in your life,” He could as well have told me to read and practice Psalm 37:25-26a: “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lends (gives).” And when in 2011 and 2013 He greatly rewarded my obedience by spectacularly blessing my children, He could as well have told me to read the whole of verse 26: “He is ever merciful, and lends (gives); And his descendants are blessed.” Hallelujah!

As I mused over these sweet thoughts by which the Lord was ministering to me, the closed door of the room I was reading from suddenly flung open on its own accord! Seconds later, in walked my dear daughter Eden. She walked to me, randomly pointed at Psalm 37:25-26 (the exact passage I was meditating on), and asked if it was the one I was reading! There was no doubt that God was indeed speaking to me (and He is speaking to you now) that a merciful person who gives towards the needs of others will never be forsaken or abandoned to lack by God, and his/her children will also be blessed.

It seems to me that one day, when King David was of old age, his thoughts went back to his childhood days, traversed his young adulthood days, until they reached his present time. While doing so, he observed that God always blessed all the generous families he knew in his lifetime. He realized that even when times were bad, like in famine, somehow God provided for the generous. David then wrote down his research findings and conclusions, little knowing that God would make them Holy Scripture for the sake of generations yet to be born. To our benefit, those research findings and conclusions are succinctly stated in two verses: “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lends (gives); And his descendants are blessed.” (Psalm 37:25-26).

Therefore, let us do ourselves and our children a favor by practicing generosity. Then we shall always be confident that the Lord will provide for us and our children even in difficult economic times. God has vowed by ‘chapter and verse’ that He will never forsake the “day-in day-out” givers and their offspring. David did a lifetime study, and his findings are no secret – givers are blessed together with their descendants. My life since 1999 is testimony to this, and so will yours be if you become an all-seasons giver.

God bless you.
