If you plan to live in obedience to the will of God, you are going to be blessed of Him. But before you get there, it is to your benefit that you learn, and determine, that when the blessings begin to flow, you will be humble. For if when the Lord exalts you, you then get filled with pride, you will be humbled and lose those blessings which the Lord gave you.“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall,” (Proverbs 16:18). This very important lesson is over and over again taught in the Holy Scriptures.

The first being in creation to fall from grace because of pride was Lucifer. He was “the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty” (Ezekiel 28:12), until iniquity (verse 15), got into His heart. In a parallel passage of Isaiah chapter 14, we learn that the particular iniquity that got into Lucifer and caused his fall was pride: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High’” (Isaiah 14:12-14). It might not sound good to say but nonetheless we must learn from Lucifer. Pride is deadly and must be fought by all means. Otherwise, destruction and falling is certain.

On their way to the Promised Land, God warned His people Israel that when the “milk and honey starts to flow” they should never say in their heart that, “My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth,” (Deuteronomy 8:17). On the contrary, Israel was to always stay humble by acknowledging that it is God who gave them the power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). The Israelites did not heed the warning, thus the expulsions from the land of blessings. “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition” (1 Corinthians 10:11). If Israel lost their blessings because of pride – disregarding God – so shall we if we do the same.

I see the winds of favor blowing your way. You are marked for a blessing from heaven because of your obedience to God. Only take heed not to exalt yourself in your heart, looking down on those seemingly less blessed than you, and disregarding the Blesser. If you honor God, acknowledging that all you have is from Him, and not esteeming yourself above His people, then you will live long in the blessings.

The Lord be with you.
