Last week I admonished you by saying that, “If you plan to live in obedience to the will of God, you are going to be blessed of Him. But before you get there, it is to your benefit that you learn, and determine, that when the blessings begin to flow, you will be humble. For if when the Lord exalts you, you then get filled with pride, you will be humbled and lose those blessings which the Lord gave you.” I am now more convinced that this issue of walking in humility is LAT’s word for the season as God gets ready to do awesome things for us.

When on Sunday (four days after posting “The Blessings of Obedience, Part 3”) I finished preaching about our need to walk in humility lest we fall, negative thoughts started flooding my mind that the sermon was not what God would have wanted preached. For a time I entertained those thoughts, believing that my preaching had been a miss in heaven’s perspective. However, it later became obvious that those thoughts were of the Devil, meant to torment me for a work well-done for the Lord. And on Monday evening, there came the thrilling confirmation from heaven that indeed I had delivered the word for the hour!

It was a few minutes after 9 p.m. and I had just finished watching news headlines on television. I handed the remote control of the decoder to my wife so she could watch whatever she wanted. Moments later, she called me saying Joyce Meyer was talking about pride versus humility, the subject of my Sunday’s sermon. With a lot of excitement, I quickly walked back to the living room to ‘hear for myself’. Amazingly, Joyce Meyer was even using the exact same Scriptures I had preached from on Sunday. For example, she began to read Nebuchadnezzar’s account of his humiliation of being turned into an animal because of walking in pride toward God. She also read Isaiah 14 concerning the fall of Lucifer because of self-exaltation. And she also read Proverbs 16:18 which says that, “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” I then went to sleep, happy and satisfied that indeed I had preached the word of the season. Hallelujah!

But as I walked to bed, it occurred to me that although, even by Joyce Meyer’s confirmation, God was telling us as a congregation that we need to walk in humility lest we lose His blessings, He was also signaling that indeed something great from Him was on its way to us. Hallelujah! We are on the verge of a significant blessing from God, which He does not want us to lose when it comes. Hence the two sermons (and confirmation through Joyce Meyer) that we need to esteem humility over pride, so that we do not fulfil Proverbs 16:18 (Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall).

I therefore call upon all of us to meditate on the things we have heard over the last two Sundays, including last week’s Word for the Week (The Blessings of Obedience, Part 3). I see winds of favor blowing our way. We are marked for a blessing from heaven because of our obedience to God. Let us take heed not to exalt ourselves, looking down on those seemingly less blessed than us, and disregarding the Blesser. If we honor God, acknowledging that all we are yet to receive is from Him, and not esteeming ourselves above His other people, then we shall live long in the blessing that is coming our way.

The Lord be with you.
