I have said before that the title of this series, “Entering Our Promised Land”, is now a misnomer because, as you should know by now, we actually already entered the land of our promises. However, the misnomer shall continue to be used for the sake of continuity of the series.

Now, just because we entered our Promised Land does not mean that all we have to do is “sit and chill.” Well, many of us are going to do some fighting – within the Promised Land – in order to secure what is already ours. Before Israel entered into her Promised Land, God told them that they were going to do some fighting against the inhabitants of the land, and that actually happened. However, they were not without divine help. For we see that just before they engaged the first city (Jericho) which they were to possess, a Man whom we now know was Jesus, appeared to them and introduced Himself as the Commander of the army of the LORD (Joshua 5:13-15), ready to fight alongside them. This should be a great object lesson for us from which to draw great encouragement. As it is written, “All these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).

The fighting in the Promised Land that we are going to do should be considered a good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12). It is a good fight because the victory of possessing what is already ours is sure. The victory is assured because the same Commander of the armies of the LORD – Jesus Christ – who fought alongside Joshua is on our side. As long as we abide in Him, following His instructions during the fighting, then we shall eat the good of the land in which we are now. Let us abide in Jesus, for without Him we can do nothing, let alone winning any spiritual battle.

God bless you.
