Thank God for earthly fathers; but none is like He who art in heaven. Fathers beget, provide, protect, encourage, counsel etc. Yet true of the Father above, He does a better job than the ones on earth. That is why we really need to know God as Father.

My father is long gone. When I occasionally think about him mubiseera byange eby’edembe (in my leisure time), I am grateful that he gave me names that speak to my divine assignment. I am grateful that he provided for me in many ways, to the best of his ability. I am grateful that he was a great encouragement to me while I was still in school. He spoke with me like I was the brightest child ever. He was indeed a good father.

Yet, nothing about my natural father’s goodness can compare to what I have personally experienced concerning God as My Father. He begot me by the Spirit, I got born again by Him. Immediately thereafter, I realized that it was actually Him who inspired my father to name me the names that embody my calling. That alone gave me a sense of identity – in God – that I didn’t have prior to getting saved. Concerning the guidance and encouragement that I constantly receive as I accomplish my calling, it is a trillion times greater than that which my father gave me while I was in school. I feel great about myself because I am working for, and with my Father. I am satisfied in life because I am in my Father’s perfect will, doing what He created me to do for Him. And, I know beyond a shadow of doubt that my Father is pleased with my service unto Him.

Concerning provision, He is limitless. When my father was still alive, there are certain things I really wanted, but he couldn’t provide for me – beneath, he was a limited human being. But not my Father! Once, whether in wisdom or foolishness I don’t know, I told my father that my Father God had provided what he couldn’t.

I am really sincere when I tell you that God is a good Father, and there is none He can be compared with. The greatest revelation there is for us to discover, and to grow in, is the fatherhood of God. We cheat ourselves when we know Him just as God, the way even the devil and all unsaved people know Him. He is our loving Father, and wants us to know Him as such. Words cannot adequately communicate the benefits in relating with God as Father.
